WesBanco - I closed my account and they will not give me my money that was in the account!
I had a checking account with Wesbanco for several years in Springfield Ohio. I then moved to Colorado were there are no banks or branches.
I opened an account with Chase then. Wesbanco would not let me close my account unless I did it in person, and I never planned to go to that part of Ohio again. I had forgoten about the checking account. A few years passed and they contacted me and said that since there was no activity with my checking account that they were going to start charging me a fee unless I closed the account.
At this time I had moved to upstate NY for my job. Again they would not let me close the account unless I did it in person. I then asked if it was possible for me to do it another way, since I never go to that part of Ohio any more. They said I could send a typed notarized letter requesting that the account be closed and an address that they could send the balance of the account to.
So I did this. Weeks then months went by. I remembered again that I was expecting a check in the mail from them. So I called them and they said that the account had been closed, I asked where the money from it was.
Lenea Ramsey who is the manger said " I will look into it and call you in a few days." I said OK. Weeks and months passed and I had forgotten about my old account and no word or check in the mail. ONE YEAR LATER I remembered and called Lenea again. I asked the same thing again on her voice mail.
No call back. Its been over TWO YEARS now and no check, no call, no explanation. What gives a bank the right not to give me MY MONEY!!!!!!! Especially after being a faithful customer for years with a car loan and everything with them!
Granted there was only a small amount in my account, but a bank has no right to keep even one cent if it doesn't belong to them. I wonder if they have done this with me how many others and how much more money have they stolen...yes Wesbanco has STOLEN my money from me, with no cause or explanation. I am writing the CEO of the company along with the next ten people down the chain of command with a link to this post.
I am also requesting interest on the money that they kept that was rightfully mine.

I know a number of banks (pretty much all of them) charge an inactivity fee and are required to disclose this fee to their customers. As you say you balance was extremely low, do you think that the balance was drained due to this fee?
Also, several States have escheatment laws and according to your own post, you hadn't used the account in years, so potentially it was escheated to the State (also required), but if that was the case, they should have told you so. When you moved, did you provide them with your new mail address?
If so, I know most banks I bank with will even send me a notification that the account is considered inactive and I can reactivate the account by signing the form and mailing bank. As for the closing your account not in person, given the amount of identity theft I can understand the requirements this bank placed as otherwise, I could close your account and have a check sent to me for the balance, then you would complaint about that, but at least then it would be a legitimate complaint then.
Sounds like your an *** who moves cross country and just forgets about there money in the bank time and time again perhaps you shouldn't have been so careless after all it didn't seem like you were to worried about the money in the first place
your a *** idiot. That man worked for his money and do with it as damn well pleases you piece of {{REDACTED}}.
